A person has died after being hit by a train in the early morning near an Essex railway station.
Emergency services were called to Waltham Cross railway station in the early hours of today, following reports of a person being hit.
Rail lines were closed between Waltham Cross and Tottenham Hale as police and Network Rail staff were on site.
Officials have now confirmed the death of the casualty at the scene.
A British Traffic Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to the line near Waltham Cross railway station at around 5.55am today, July 31, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the death.”
Trains between Cambridge, Stansted Airport and London Liverpool Street were not directly affected, but customers were warned of possible disruption.
Two hours after the incident was reported by Greater Anglia, the lines had been reopened, with services expected to resume as scheduled.
