After a 12-year association, the Environmental Conservation Co-Operative (ECCO) has announced it's to end its management of the Parndon Wood Nature Reserve.
ECCO's lease completion has precipitated the farewell of one of Harlow's favourite nature spots.
Throughout this period, the team at ECCO has been instrumental in enriching the experiences of countless school trips, seasonal events, and holiday activities.
ECCO has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Harlow Council for their trust and unwavering support.
Councillor Nicky Purse, cabinet portfolio holder for sustainability and environment, said: "I would like to say a special thank you to ECO for running the reserve for the last 12 years.
"They have provided a great service and created many memorable moments for local families to access the reserve and get close to nature.
"While we are very sad that they have decided give notice to end their involvement, this does not mean it is the end of Pardon Wood Nature Reserve.
"We will keep it open to the public from 12 May on its usual days and opening hours.
"We are also working to secure a new community partner to operate the service and that work will be stepped up in the coming weeks.
"The financial support that we provide to ECCO to run the reserve will remain in the budget to support a new venture and our volunteers will continue to maintain and look after the reserve."
ECCO's collaboration at Parndon Wood deepened their connection to the town and its residents.
Therefore, the company will maintain its financial support to the Nature Reserve for an undisclosed period.
Additionally, the ECCO's Environmental Fund, set to launch in May 2024, will encourage local environmental projects, schools, and community groups to apply for funding up to £1000.
The last official day of ECCO's management of Parndon Wood Nature Reserve will be Sunday, May 12.
Harlow Council, acknowledging ECCO's years of service, confirmed that the Reserve will continue to be open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday based on the current operating hours.
The reserve will also provide toilet facilities for visitors.
