An outdoor chess table is being added to Stonards Hill Recreation Ground in Epping.
Funded by the Rotary Club of Epping, the addition is part of an initiative to improve the grounds.
Following a recent town council meeting, other suggestions were made including potential additional gym equipment, a loop track for runners, and donations to other town play areas.
Deputy Town Mayor Councillor Cherry McCredie said: "I still think a bandstand would have been a wonderful thing."
Councillor Michael Wright, who is also an Epping Rotarian, said it was a Rotary initiative and the club wanted the additional items at Stonards Hill.
Councillor Holly Whitbread asked whether other town council play areas, specifically Ivy Chimneys, could benefit from the Rotary club's project.
The Rotary Club plans to continue partnering with the town council on future projects.
