Epping Forest’s largest emergency good agency 3Food4U has teamed up with Essex County Council and partner training organisations to offer free training courses for adults in maths.
The courses are designed to be practical, activity based and focused on building skills around money, personal finance and building confidence in the use of numbers in everyday life, including supporting children to develop their skills and help with homework.
To attend any of these courses you must be 19 years or older, live in Essex and not have a qualification in maths.
There are three courses to choose from:
Marvellous and Meaningful Maths is for people who care for children under five. This might be parents, grandparents or any adult who looks after young children.
The course will develop your confidence and understanding of maths in the early years and is packed full of practical and fun activities that will help you support and engage the child in maths learning at this vital stage of their development.
This course will be delivered in three workshops:
- Loughton - 10am to 12 noon on March 9, 16 and 23
- Ongar - 10am to 12 noon on March 14, 21 and 28
Multiply: Money - This focuses on building confidence in the best use of money and personal finance.
It covers topics such as working out which supermarket ‘deals’ are best, choosing the right mobile phone tariff, comparing different credit cards, and planning the household budget.
Multiply: Numbers - This course aims to build overall confidence in the use of numbers.
Topics include converting from one currency to another or kilometres to miles, etc. Understanding fractions, decimals and percentages and reading from drawings and graphs.
Both Multiply: Money and Multiply: Numbers are being delivered on Saturdays between 12.30pm and 1.30pm or 1.30pm to 2.30pm at Epping Forest District Museum, Waltham Abbey.
The above courses are also available online on request.
Everyone attending will receive a £20 voucher on completion of any of the courses.
