More than 100 people gathered for a town's proclamation ceremony for King Charles III.
Town mayor Cllr Barbara Cohen read out Loughton’s proclamation from the balcony at the front of Loughton Library on September 11.
This was the first to be held by a Loughton council since 1910 as people gathered to hear the speech.
Following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Cllr Cohen said: “Together with the people of Loughton, I mourn the loss of our beloved Queen Elizabeth. Her wisdom and dedication was and remains an inspiration for us all.”
A book of condolence was made available at the library as well as St John the Baptists Church in Church Lane, St Mary’s Church in High Road, and St Michael’s Church in Roding Road.
Floral tributes were also laid at the war memorial at Kings Green.
