Drivers are set to have their journeys disrupted due to a programme of temporary closures that will shut long stretches of road in Epping Forest for roadworks.
A notice from Essex County Council in this week’s edition of the Guardian details its intention to make an order for the phased closure of the roads in areas including Epping and Waltham Abbey.
All temporary closure orders are valid for up to 18 months and the dates when works will take place will be specified on the one.network website and/or signs at or near the relevant locations.
In addition to the temporary closures, a 30mph speed limit will be introduced on the affected routes as well as ‘no waiting, no loading and no stopping’ restrictions.
The order due to come into effect on July 28 will authorise the phased closure of these lengths of road:
- Stonards Hill, Epping – from its junction with B1393 Palmers Hill to its junction with Houblons Hill, a distance of 1350m.
The diversion will be via Houblons Hill, Coopersale Common, B181 Epping Road, The Plain, B1393 Palmers Hill and vice versa.
- A112 Sewardstone Road, Waltham Abbey – from its junction with A112 Sewardstone Road Roundabout to the county boundary, a distance of 4896m.

The notice states works will only be carried out between Southway and Daws Hill. The length of the closure is required to exclude HGVs due to the lack of a suitable alternative route. Non-HGV through vehicles will be allowed to access properties to the north and south of the hard closure between Southway and Daws Hill.

The alternative route for this closure will be via Wake Arms Roundabout, A104 Epping New Road, A1069 Rangers Road, A110 Kings Head Hill, A112 Sewardstone Road, Sewardstone Road Roundabout, Dowding Way, A121 Volunteer Roundabout, Honey Lane and vice versa.
- Hastingwood Road/Greenman Lane/Windhill, Hastingwood/Magdalen Laver – from the junction with Canes Lane to the junction with High Laver Road/Harlow Road, a distance of 6650m.
The diversion will be via Harlow Road, Church Road, Maltings Hill, Fyfield Road, Moreton Road, B184 Ongar Road, Fyfield Road, A414 Four Wantz Roundabout, Epping Road, High Road, Talbot Roundabout, Vicarage Lane, Canes Lane and vice versa.
Separately, and also from July 28, an order is due to come into force for the phased closure of these lengths of road in Harlow:

For HGVs it will be via Edinburgh Way, A1184 Cambridge Harlow Road, St James Way, A120, A10, A414 and vie versa.
