We have been looking back at some of the pubs that have been lost over the years in the Guardian’s areas over the past few months.
Having featured many of those pubs that have pulled their final pints in parts of East London, we continue to focus on Epping Forest and look at some of those that have closed in Chigwell or have been converted into other businesses.
Now 'Sheesh' restaurant, Ye Olde Kings Arms dates back to 1547 and is one of the most famous pub sites in the country. It was immortalised as the Maypole Inn in Charles Dickens' novel 'Barnaby Rudge' and its list of visitors included Winston Churchill and Marlon Brando
The Lost Pubs Project archives the decline of the English pub this page uses pictures and information sourced from its website www.closedpubs.co.uk.
The site of the Prince of Wales is now flats. The pub was rebuilt after being destroyed in air raid in 1941 with considerable loss of life
