The Covid threat has been downgraded and the shielding scheme has been discontinued.
Why then are so many in the public sector still working, inefficiently, from home?
The failure of the DLVA to process HGV licences is well publicised, but many other agencies continue home working. This week I found both the Electoral Commission and Companies House unable to provide a live service. Those answering phones are at junior levels unable to satisfactorily answer calls.
We are however shielded from other truths. For example many HGV drivers stopped working when they were forced onto PAYE from being self employed.
Much of the shortage of GPs is down to many now working a three to four-day week. This is because those earning over £100k lose the personal allowance meaning doctors earning a little over that pay punitive tax rates.
