Essex County Fire and Rescue Service have received 26 flood-related calls in three hours between 5.20am and 8.40am today.
The floods occurred this morning across parts of Epping following an heavy rain overnight, the Environment Agency expects flood levels to steadily rise and remain high throughout the day.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service works with partner agencies to help during floods- it only responds to incidents when there is a risk to life.
They received reports of internal flooding at a property in Beaconsfield Avenue, Epping today at 5.23am.
The floodwater was not affecting electrics so the fire service advised the occupant to call the water board.
They also had reports of a car stuck in floodwater in Coopersale Street, Epping today at 7.40am
The individual was able to get out of the vehicle and to safety without assistance and firefighters did not attended.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service issued advice for residents: “Please do not drive through flooded roads.
“Even if the water doesn’t look deep, you can’t see what hidden hazards are covered by the water. Find an alternative route.
“If your home is affected by floodwater, and only if it is safe to do so, you should:
- Ensure your external drains are clear of debris
- Take everything off the ground to prevent damage
- Turn electrics off or call an electrician if you cannot do this safely”
