The Met Office has issued a flood alert for the River Roding as widespread rainfall is expected to continue into Monday night (October 4).
Due to the increased rainfall the river has been rising and this may result in flooding to “low-lying land and roads” next to the body of water.
The main areas that may be affected are Abridge and Loughton.
On the Government website detailing the flood alert it read: “We expect the river to remain high throughout Monday. Further heavy rainfall is forecast from Monday night into Tuesday and river levels may rise in response to this.
There'll be some sunshine for many of us on #MondayMorning 🌤️

However, keep your coat or brolly close to hand as there will be plenty of hefty downpours around. These showers may contain some hail and the odd rumble of thunder, especially if you live near to the coast 🌦️ pic.twitter.com/z0wtCJvN7e
“Take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions. We are constantly monitoring river levels and have staff in the field checking for and clearing blockages”
There will be an update to that message at 8pm today if anything changes.
Where else are there flood alerts in England?

Alongside this the Met Office have also issued a yellow weather warning for Wales and South West England, with up to 20-30mm of rain expected in a few hours.
In some areas of South West England that could go up to as much as 40-50mm.
