Pictured above is a view of Traps Hill, Loughton, c1910.
Monghyr Cottage, on the left, is one of the very few existing houses that still survive in High Road.
It was once the home of architect James Cubitt, who designed Staples Road Junior School in 1888.
You can just see the Loughton cricket pavilion behind the cottage and green fields beyond.
The wooden signpost was replaced in the 1930s with a cast iron version and repositioned as seen today.
