The first lease has been signed at the Nexus building in Harlow's flagship business and science campus.

A 10-year lease has been signed by Japanese electronics company Renesas at the council’s Nexus building at the Harlow Innovation Park – previously known as Harlow Science Park.

Renesas headquarters are in Japan and they employ around 19,000 people across the world.

The company opened a design centre in the town twenty years ago and is now moving its UK office to the Nexus building, occupying a whole floor of the building with upwards of 30 staff and creating at least 20 jobs.

“The company represents the continuation of Harlow’s legacy of hosting innovative technology businesses which make people’s lives better," said Cllr Tony Durcan, portfolio holder for growth and prosperity.

“We look forward to seeing them continue to succeed and grow in Harlow, bringing employment and business opportunities to our town. Helping a global company to stay and expand in Harlow shows the confidence there is in our town as a place to do business.”

Construction began on Harlow Innovation Park in October of 2018.

The innovation park in Maypole Boulevard forms part of the Harlow Enterprise Zone and is adjacent to Kao Park home to businesses such as Arrow, Pearson, and NVIDIA.

Neil Robinson, senior director at Renesas, said: “The move to Nexus on the Harlow Innovation Park provides an opportunity to continue our growth in an environment tailor made for technology driven companies. Harlow’s location, close to London and Cambridge, together with its excellent rail, road and airport connections make it an ideal choice for our operation.”
