Essex has been revealed as the second most dangerous county for drivers in the UK.
The county has seen the second highest number of fatalities and seriously injured casualties on its roads in the last five years.
Between 2015 and 2019 there were 3,770 serious injuries and deaths on roads in Essex, according to research by USwitch.
Only Kent led the county, where there were 3,884 deaths and serious injuries in the same time period.
Hampshire, Surrey and Lancashire made up the rest of the 'top 5'.
Across the whole of the UK there were 131,369 deaths and serious injuries.
Nicola Foster, chairman of The Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP), said: the figure, while too high, was partly a result of the county having the second highest levels of traffic in the UK from 2015 – 2019.
She said: "When comparing different areas, it's important to take the size of the areas into account.
'"n area with more traffic will have more collisions because there are more opportunities for people to have them.
"Adjusting for traffic levels puts Essex at 138 out of 211 local authority areas."
