Hindu volunteers are delivering free meals to vulnerable elderly residents and frontline hospital workers.
Worshippers at BAPS Hindu Mandir (temple) in Chigwell are resolved to help their community through the Covid-19 pandemic.
Volunteers from the Chigwell mandir have been delivering free meals to the elderly and staff at King George Hospital in Ilford, as well as Queen’s, and Newham General hospitals.
The volunteers have also extended the free meals to other front-line workers such as Chigwell community police and NHS care home staff.
Despite currently being closed due to lockdown restrictions, the mandir has also continued to provide religious services in the form of online web cast.
Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan (BAPS), a Hindu denomination formed in 1907, has more than 1,200 mandirs worldwide.
