Book lovers are being invited to give their say and sign forms to prevent the potential closure of North Weald Library.

Residents of North Weald Village, Hastingwood and Thornwood Common will have the opportunity to meet with parish councillors and staff to find out more.

The meeting is being held at the ‘Derek Tringham’ Lounge at North Weald Village Hall, High Road, between 11am and 2pm on Saturday February 9.

North Weald Parish Council clerk, Susan Deluca, said: “It is important because we are trying to raise awareness of consultation with residents.

“We are trying ensure residents are aware there is a possible closure.”

The High Street facility is one of several libraries listed by Essex County Council to shut down, including Chigwell, Chipping Ongar, Debden and Buckhurst Hill.

Parish councillors met with county councillor Anthony Jackson on Monday and Brentwood and Ongar MP Alex Burghart last Friday to discuss North Weald Library’s future.

Ms Delcua added: “If people come along we can talk them through the form and have some hard copies aswell.”

A public consultation concerning the closures is due to end on February 20.
