Local volunteers are set to support vulnerable residents following the launch of a new NHS funded project.
The Smart Life project, which was launched by Age UK Essex last month, is set to help people to build their self-confidence, remain independent and live healthily and safely with the help of volunteers.
The project, which was jointly funded by NHS West Essex Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Essex County Council, will see vulnerable people able to get assistance to hospital or GP appointments, help on public and community transport or company on a walk to the shops or the park.
Smart Life, which is a free service and will initially run for one year, is currently in place in The Limes in Epping, Lister Medical Centre in Harlow, Forest Practice in Loughton and Thaxted surgery in Uttlesford.
Personal Independence Coordinator for Smart Life Julie Harkus said: “This exciting and innovative project has been developed by a partnership of public and voluntary sector organisations, to encourage local communities to support each other.
“It can only be a positive experience for everyone involved.”
