WILSON

WILSON Jean Jean Wilson the pianist, organist and piano teacher sadly died on February 15th. A local Ilfordian, Jean was educated at Ilford County High School for Girls and trained at Trinity College of Music before joining the teaching profession. She taught with her husband Pat, a gifted musician and lecturer, at schools in East London. Later she took up part time teaching in Ilford at Mount School for Girls. Joining the Redbridge Music School staff, Jean became the supervising piano teacher for the borough. Hundreds of pupils have been taught by her, many going into the music profession. They all testify to her excellent teaching techniques and great successes in the Royal Schools of Music examinations. Recently in retirement Jean has been teaching a small group of adults as a project at the Music School. Jean was a stalwart supporter of Ilford Choral Society for nearly fifty years. She was a member of the committee and became accompanist in 1972. She held this position until recent months. As well as accompanying Jean helped with the selection of music, booking soloists and orchestras, taking sectional rehearsals and sharing the conducting on occasions. This was always done with great enthusiasm and verve. A committed Christian, Jean also trained as an organist and was for some time the organist at St.Clements Ilford where she was a church member for many years. Lately she has been deputising at churches in Walthamstow and Tottenham where her skills have been greatly appreciated. Jean possessed a strong personality and was a real life force in all she did. It was no surprise to all who knew her that she carried on as normally as she could in the Autumn until she was no longer able to because of illness. In recent years Jean lived in Loughton and shared her life with dogs and cats who have been greatly loved. She and Pat leave behind two supremely gifted and talented daughters, Julia and Jenifer. The funeral is on March the 11th at 10.30am in St John's Church Loughton. Flowers should arrive at the house by 10.00 at the latest or the day before if you want to be on the safe side. If you send flowers to the funeral directors, they need to arrive by 9.00 am at the latest or the day before. The addresses are: To Jean's Home The Funeral Directors 17 Stonypath, A.Bennett & Sons, Loughton, 61 Queen Street, Essex, Buckhurst Hill, IG10 1SU Essex IG9 5BU
