Such sad news. Our church was one of those lucky enough to have had his support while we were without a permanent vicar. Our prayers are with him and his family at this sad loss of a true gentleman.

I am deeply sorry to hear about John and my family and I pass on our sincere wishes and deepest sympathy to his family. My father Len was in hospital in Romford recently, and John occupied the next bed. As soon as we saw John we realised we knew him. It turned out that he used to be my Grandmother's vicar in Debden many years ago and we used to have very enjoyable chats about life past. He remembered my Grandmother very well, and backed this up by saying "She used to make me these lovely Easter cakes!" which she did!
John gave us a signed copy of his book "Jackpot" many years ago. We still treasure it. It is a brilliant read and he was a very talented author.
Such a small World.
He told me just before Christmas when I messaged him to see how he was, that he will see me in heaven.
Rest in peace John. God bless you and your loved ones.
